On November 13, 2008 the National Aeronautics and Space Administration announced that astronomers using NASA's Hubble Space Telescope had taken the first visible-light snapshot of a planet orbiting another star. The planet, named Fomalhaut b, orbits the nearby, bright star Fomalhaut, located 25 light-years away in the southern constellation Piscis Australis.
On December 1, 2008 Exoplanetary Properties announced that it was claiming exclusive rights to offer for sale parcels of property on Fomalhaut b. The transfer of property rights would also include the mining, metal and mineral rights to the properties. We believe this to be the first time that property outside of our solar system has been offered for sale.
